General Motors (GM) is no longer producing new Pontiac vehicles. They discontinued the Pontiac brand but GM is still fulfilling their full-service warranties for these vehicles. In 2009, GM announced it would no longer be carrying the Pontiac and that their last Pontiac car would be sold in 2010. The company would instead focus on their other car brands including their GMC, Cadillac, Buick and Chevrolet models. GM also dropped their Saturn, Oldsmobile and Hummer brands as part of a restructuring plan.

Pontiac started selling cars in the United States in 1926 and quickly spread their operations to Canada and Mexico. In the US the cars were marketed in the mainstream performance category however in Canada they were marketed as a more affordable option.

The End of Pontiac

Pontiac was a popular vehicle in Canada. It made up almost 40 per cent of GM’s vehicle sales in the country before they dropped the brand in April 2009. This has not effected existing Pontiac owners as their warranties are still honoured. You can still have your cars and trucks serviced at GM dealerships also. Goodbye Pontiac, you will be missed.
